Are these the 3 biggest challenges facing SEO in 2015?

Over the past year we SEOs have encountered several significant changes in how websites are perceived, and how we have to change what we do…

But are the following really the 3 biggest challenges facing SEO in 2015?

1. “Not provided”

Here at Analytics SEO we’re currently seeing that over 95% of our organic search traffic is “not provided” in Google Analytics. I’m sure that many of you are experiencing the same. Or perhaps you’ve given up on looking for this data by now?

2. Mobilegeddon

Back in April, Google’s “Mobilegeddon” hit the mainstream news. Although it can be argued that this update didn’t have a sudden, significant impact, what’s without question is that many industries are now reporting that more than 50% of their site visitors come through mobile devices. If your site doesn’t perform well on mobile, your business is going backwards!

3. Be prepared for machine learning

Thirdly, as discussed a couple of weeks ago on TWIO, it was announced that machine learning is now the 3rd most important ranking factor in Google’s algorithm. This means that it’s now more important than ever to demonstrate to Google who your industry peers are, and how your site is performing in relation to their sites.

How to deal with these SEO challenges inside our platform

Regarding dealing with these challenges, we’ve had our “not provided” solution in place for well over a year now. In summary it combines Google Analytics data with Search Console data and our own magic dust to provide you with a decent estimate of the keywords that are driving traffic to your site.

From a mobile performance perspective, it’s important to distinguish your mobile rankings from your desktop rankings and last month we incorporated this feature into the platform too.

Finally, you need to be continually benchmarking your site’s performance against your competitors – and it’s important that you define precise categories for your competitors as well. That was you’ll get a realistic picture of how your site is performing in relation to your industry competitors.

What do you think? Are these the 3 biggest challenges facing SEO in 2015? Or are there other challenges that are more important to you?

Whatever SEO challenges you’re facing, we’d love to see if we can help you. Why not arrange an up-to-date demo of our platform and see what’s changed?
